Remembering 1990 In Under 12 Minutes

I saw this online last week--a mix/mashup/clipfest of all the pop cultural moments from 1990. Who knew there were so many?! First off, there were some serious jams that year that have proven to be enduring (see Dee-Lite!). And I have to say I was almost surprised about how many now classic films there were from that year which didn't seem that cinematically great at the time. Of course, compared to what's at the multiplex today....don't get me started. ;) Anyway, this is a fun little time machine video that will take you back. Way back. Enjoy!

Internet Nostalgia circ. 1995 And Some Shocking Predictions

"Hey -- why should I be on the Internet?" That's the question that kicks off a recently rediscovered Montana PSA to encourage local libraries and school to get online.  The answer, though is the kicker; "the internet will be our phone, our shopping, even our TV" so say a bunch of extremely enthusiastic 9-year-olds.  This video is great not only for it's spot-on prediction but also for the great screen grabs of the Internet 1.0.

When I saw this on YouTube, the next featured video was a 1995 commercial for AOL (posted below).  Ah--remember when AOL was The Internet?  Those were the days.  Except for the ads reminder of how they used to charge hourly for access.  That has to be one of the best money-making scams of all time, right?  The commercial repeatedly boasts "10 free hours!" if you sign up with AOL.  Well, they got the certainly got their corporate comeuppance.  Now it just may be Facebook's turn as their stock took a dive yesterday, hitting an all-time low.

C'mon....It's The '90s!

Back in the '90s, it seems that it was very popular in films and TV shows to say this phrase as a way of accenting a joke or making a point.  Of course, when you string all of these lines together 20 years later, it becomes a whole lot funnier.  And that's what someone did over at one of my favorite sites for pop cultural flotsam/jetsam, EverythingIsTerrible.com.  I actually remember using this line a lot when I was younger, saying it in this overly mature and somewhat over-it tone of voice but with a change of decade;  "c'mon...it's the 80s!"  Oh how times have changed....
